Plagiarism
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the act of presenting another person’s words, ideas, or data as one’s own. When submitting work that includes the words, ideas, or data of others, students must properly acknowledge the source through complete, accurate, and specific citations. Verbatim statements must also be enclosed in quotation marks.
In academically honest writing or speaking, students must acknowledge the source whenever:
-
Another person’s exact words are quoted.
-
Another person’s idea, opinion, or theory is used, even when fully paraphrased in the student’s own words.
-
Facts, statistics, or other illustrative materials are borrowed, unless the information is considered common knowledge.
A nationally recognized plagiarism software may be used to check student work.
